Community Service Projects
Traditional community service is not legal work and, therefore according to the ABA standards, does not count towards a student’s pro bono service hours. Nevertheless, Wake Forest’s students, faculty, and staff have a long tradition of engaging in community service through the law school, the university, and other religious or civic organizations in the Winston-Salem community. Community service is an important part of the Pro Humanitate spirit of “service to humanity,” which the university espouses and which the law school fosters. During first-year orientation, all 1L students participate in Habitat for Humanity.
Below is a large sampling of the community service projects that students, faculty, and staff dedicate themselves to in addition to their pro bono legal work:

- Law and Medicine Society – Sponsors the Red Cross Blood Drives
- Domestic Violence Advocacy Center – Volunteer at local battered women’s shelter
- Domestic Violence Advocacy Center – Fundraising Raffle for battered women’s shelter

- Hispanic and Latino Students – Project Pumpkin
- Black Law Student Association – Food Drive

- Black Law Student Association – Haiti Earthquake Relief Drive
- Youth Advocacy Group – Tutor at Kimberly Park Elementary School

- Simmons Memorial Foundation – Professor Omari Simmons’s foundation that provides educational support programs for high school students from vulnerable at risk groups.

- Public Interest Law Organization – Fundraising campaign and annual Auction to fund public interest and public service summer grants for law students
